Bad Foods for Your Body
~ These Will "ZAP" Your Energy ~

The stuff we eat that are considered "bad foods" are the ones we LOVE the most, aren't they? These bad foods need to be avoided like the plague!

There are plenty of foods that are good for you, but for some reason we tend to go for the unhealthy foods...why? Because it tastes so good!

I remember watching tv one day, and it was a show about this guy who was working very hard to perfect his body for a competition. What he ate was extremely important to his figure and this upcoming event. I'll never forget what he said:

"I don't eat for taste anymore, I eat for fuel."

That's a POWERFUL statement! It might help to repeat that to yourself, when trying to lose weight or if you're trying to eat healthy. Your mind is more powerful than you think.

While there are plenty of foods that burn fat, there are also plenty of foods to avoid. When starting any type of diet and exercise you need to watch out for the foods that can zap your energy right from under you.

It's easier said than done to change the way you eat. You have to remind yourself that it's not going to happen overnight. Once you figure out what isn't good for you, then you can start to steer clear from specific foods.

For example, I try my hardest to avoid anything with the ingredient "aspartame". I've read articles that say this ingredient is linked to cancer, so that's one of the first things I check for when reading the ingredients.

My kids even check for this! LOL, it's so funny because here's my 10 year old reading the ingredients list and he'll put it back saying, "nuh, uh...its got that stuff in it."

You think that since it says no sugar, then it's ok. I learned that when it says no sugar then most likely there's an artificial sweetener like aspartame in it. I even read that they're changing the name to "amino sweet" to make it sound more appealing since aspartame has such a bad rep. As soon as I find that article I will post it so you can read for yourself.

"Bad Foods" to Watch Out For:

  • Processed Foods - The more food is processed, it becomes even more unhealthy. These foods contribute to the toxicity of your body. The extra work your liver and kidneys have to do clear the toxins out your body requires a lot of energy.

  • Sugar - it spikes your blood sugar and then you crash, leaving you fatigued. In order to digest and process it, your body has to take from its own vitamins and mineral stores. Not good for your energy levels.

  • Turkey - contains an amino acid called trytophan. This is known to help people feel relaxed. Take note on the days you eat turkey to see if this is true for you.

  • Solid Fats - consuming a high fat meal can leave you soooo sleepy.

  • Pretzels and Crackers - these are convenient low-fat snacks, but these processed carbohydrates are broken down so fast that they give you the same blood sugar spike like sugar.

  • Regular or Diet Soda - these are always loaded with sugar. You can actually lose weight quickly by giving up soda and replacing it with water.

  • Fried Foods - this is obviously an unhealthy, fatty food (oooooh, but I love it so!!).

  • Bad Habits:

  • Skipping Breakfast - your body has already went so many hours without food, it needs to be replenished.

  • Not Eating Enough - you don't want your body to go into "starvation mode". During times of severe calorie restriction the body will store calories as fat and burn muscle as a way to conserve energy. Increase your metabolism by eating something every 2 to 3 hours.

  • Dehydration - overlooked cause of fatigue. When you don't get enough water, the blood flow to your brain and organs is slowed down which makes you tired.

  • Too much food - large meals take up a lot of energy to digest.

  • A Bad Attitude - ok, so this isn't a food, but it can zap your energy quick! Hence the name, bad attitude...bad foods :)
