Neck Muscles ~ Keep it Strong and Stabilized ~
Your neck muscles supports the heaviest part of your body, your head! Get to know the muscle anatomy of your neck to work the right muscles
in the neck to make it even stronger.
The muscles in neck stretch from the base of the skull into the back.
These muscles work together to bend the head when you nod, it helps with breathing, and your neck muscles act in connection with the eye
muscles, causing the head to turn from side to side with the eyes.
Isn't it amazing how much your neck is involved with other parts of your body other than just being what separates your head from your torso?
Amazing!
The neck has a whole lot of functionality, but is also prone to tons of stress. Incorporating
neck stretches into your stretching routine helps to relieve the tension
and stress from daily life. These stretches will help to decrease muscle tightness in the neck.
Have you ever had a crick in your neck or just hurt your neck somehow? I think we all have. Those things hurt! It makes doing the littlest
thing that much harder! You can't turn your head to the side, you end up turning your shoulders with your head, you can't get up without
putting strain on your neck.
When you have neck pain, you consciously keep your neck stiff and straight because you don't want to feel any pain. Sometimes just sitting in
a chair can be painful because your neck is what holds your head up...your head is the heaviest part of your body! This adds even MORE strain.
Save yourself the trouble and strengthen and lengthen your neck muscles.
The Two Main Muscles in Your Neck Are:
- Sternocleidomastoid Muscle - located across the side of the neck. It's thick and narrow in the center, but broad and thinner
at each end. This muscle in the neck is used to tilt the head from side to side.

- Upper Trapezius Muscle - this muscle is located between the back of the neck and the shoulders. This is the area that's more
prone to muscle tension and neck pain.
So, knowing that your neck supports the head, the largest part of your body, give it a break by making it stronger. Remember it also helps
with breathing...it's all connected, so it's important to strengthen your entire body from head to toe.
