Stability Ball Exercises
"Standing Woodchoppers"

Standing Woodchoppers is performed using a stability ball or medicine ball.

To carry out the woodchopper exercise while holding a ball challenges your core muscles as well as your arms and upper back.

This is also an excellent cardio exercise. When doing woodchoppers you'll get your heart pumping for sure!

Remind yourself to keep your abs tight and engaged throughout the entire move. Also, make sure to pivot the foot opposite to the wood chop so you don't hurt your knees on the way down.

Keep the moves slow and controlled so you don't lose your balance on the way down. Try to touch the ground if you can.

You may have to take it easy at first especially if you're out of shape. Listen to your body and work your way through it. I tired out easily when I first tried this exercise, but after some practice it became easier.

If you're short on time this is an excellent heart pumping, body sculpting workout. Get ready to sweat!

Ready? Let's Get Started!

  1. Hold a stability ball or medicine ball with both hands and feet shoulder width apart.

  2. Keeping both hands on the ball lift your arms straight up over your head to the right.

  3. Keep your abs tight.

  4. Bring the ball down, diagonally across your body, down to your left foot (like you're chopping wood). As you bring the ball down, go into a squat position while pivoting your right foot (coming up onto your toes and slightly turning your heel out).

  5. Stand back up, taking the ball back up to the right (you're creating a diagonal chop across your body)

  6. Repeat the exercise for a full set before moving to the other side.

  7. Repeat for 3-4 sets of 6-12 reps.
